My Mosaic Mirror from charity shop pottery

Need:
MDF wood
Plates / Tiles
PVA glue
Tile cutters / hammer
Mirror
Brackets

I decided to make my centre piece mosaic using a piece for my living room because I felt it needed a wow factor. I had been reading about moasic and I was eager to have a go. So this was my 1st attempt. Whilst visiting my Dad I noticed a circular piece of MDF he didn't need anymore that he had used as a template for a chandlier he had made for a customer. I decided to use plates/pottery from charity shops I found along the way. For the gold pieces I used white plates that I sprayed gold with spray paint. I began by drawing a simple design onto the would and decided on a colour scheme of White gold and pale blue.

This piece took me almost a year to make as I would do a little at a time, using the tile cutters was tough on the hands. I started first by drawing a outline of the pattern and began by placing the white pieces into place. To fix the tiles into place I used PVA glue.

I decided that I didn't want to grout the mosaic as I was happy with the effect and liked the natural colour of the wood coming through. I finished of the edge and inbetween the blue flowers with gold stones which I covered with PVA glue to set the into place.

Once I had completed the mosaic I had a trip back to my dads workroom where he fixed the mirror using brackets to the back of the mosaic and it was complete!
